How To Burn a CD


There are many reasons to burn a cd. You may want to make a backup copy of a cd that you already have, or you may want to backup your data and documents onto a cd, or you may want to make a customized music cd of legally licensed music that you already own, or a video on cd, or many other reasons.

The first thing that you must do is start the program itself. This will bring up a menu that will give you several options on burning different types of CD's.

We will be making a data cd, so click on "make a data CD".

This brings up two options. The first option is "direct cd" which allows you to drag and drop files to the cd as if you were dragging files between hard drives. The second option is "data CD project", which is used for normal cd burning where you want to burn files directly to the cd through this software.

Click on "data CD project".

This brings up the Layout Screen. The top left panel is where you will click to browse to the location of where the data is located that you want to browse. You can drag complete folders or specific files from the top two panels to the bottom right panel, which is the files to be burned area. You can also click on a file to highlight it, and click on the add button to add it to the list of files to be burned below.

As you are adding files to be burned, make sure you pay attention to the project size and/or how many minutes it will be using on the cd. If you try to burn more than you blank CD will allow, the burn will fail.

Once you are finnished adding files, you must insert a blank disc into your CD Recorder.

Click once on the "Record" button.

Select "Finalize CD" because we want to close this CD session. If you were going to add files at a later time to this CD, you would choose "Finalize Session. Don't Finalize CD" option instead. If you do this, and don't finalize the CD, it will not be accessible on all normal CD reader drives. You will know this has happened because the disc will just keep spinning up or locking up and it will not be accessible.

Next, Click "Start Recording".

The recording process starts and the CD should eject when it is finnished. Once it is finnished, the CD should be readable in most newer CD and DVD drives.
